Software Classification

Application software is a type of computer program that performs a specific personal, educational, and business function. Each application is designed to assist end-users in accomplishing a variety of tasks, which may be related to productivity, creativity, or communication. There are two classifications of software, by type and distribution.

1. By Type

Application software. It has certain functions such as presentation and data processing. Examples : Microsoft Office Word, Microsoft Office Excel, MYOB, OpenOffice.org.

Operating system . Used to coordinate each component and function of the computer. Example: Windows, iOS and Linux.

Programming language is that functions as a standard instruction provider. Example: HTML, Java, and Delphi, etc.

2. By Distribution

Freeware, is software “free”. Usually, features incomplete and not optimal.

Adware, can obtained and used for free but will appear ads.

Spyware, made specifically to spy on all the activities of computer users, widely used to steal data.

OpenSource, is open source , can edited / updated and distributed, obtained “free” and can developed under the GPL (General Public License).

Shareware, for certain purposes distributed free of charge, with limited features and lifetime.

Malware, which is malicious malware.

Firmware, a type of storage software that can only read or Memory Read Only, patent, cannot modified.
